Setup Netscape Communicator Composer

First open Netscape Composer:

  1. On the WIN95 Task Bar Click Start
  2. Choose Programs and Click the Netscape Composer icon. The Composer (Editor) screen will open.
  3. Click Edit and Choose Preferences
  4. Choose Composer
  5. Type your own name in Author Name:
  6. Put a check in Automatically save page every 10 minutes
  7. HTML source: browse for a write editor on your hard drive    ie) notepad.exe
  8. Images: browser for an image editor on your hard drive    ie) Paint Shop Pro
  9. Experiment with the Font Mode Size until you decide on a preference. There are three choices of how you want the visitor's browser to view the text on your page. I personally prefer "show relative HTML font scale" since this setting will adjust the text that visitors see on my page relative to how they have their browser settings set. +2 adjusts their settings by increasing by 2 increments etc.
  10. Click the + sign beside Composer and Click Publishing
  11. Put a check in Maintain Links
  12. Put a check in Keep Images with Page. Both of these settings will keep the page you are editing from the WEB intact with the links and images.
  13. Enter FTP or HTML address that your server has given you to publish your homepage to
  14. Insert the URL address of your homepage so that after you publish a page your browser will take you to your page on the WEB automatically.
  15. Click OK

Using Netscape Composer To Publish Your Page

  1. Click the Save icon to save your page as is to hard drive (or File\Save)
  2. Click Publish icon (or File\Publish)
  3. Most of your setting should already be filled in if you followed the instruction above. If not, then please review the instructions found at the top of this page.

Be sure to substitute your own info in place of the information listed. If the settings above do not work, contact StoneMedia for the necessary information.

  4. Put a check in Save Password only if you prefer not to type in your e-mail address each time.
  5. Click All Files associated with this page only if you have not uploaded the other files already or if you wish to include a new file that you have added to your page.

Click files to add and remove the files that will be uploaded with your revised or new page.

    Or

Click All Files in pages folder only if the page has a folder or directory of its own or if you notice that an associated file is not listed. Sometimes this will happen with midi or wave files. So be sure to review the list of files to be uploaded carefully. If you miss an associated file your page will not work correctly. You can come back to the Publish step and publish the missing file.

  6. Click OK and your page will start to upload to your server. Note: If you receive a message that some of the files are addressed to your local hard drive, review the list to ensure that everything is right. If you see an error Click Cancel and edit your page.
  7. Browse to you page using your browser and take a look at your page to ensure that it looks correct and is working as you expected.

You will know you are actually seeing your page on the WEB by looking at the URL address in Location: example: http://www.stonemedia/username/index.html
